Top 100 Songs of the 1980s

The 1980s is a super underrated era that is under looked compared to the music of both the 1960s and 1970s. The music was both innovative in many genres like metal, rap, and alternative and even influenced the pop music of the time.

Below you will find my opinion of the best songs that were released in the 1980s. For the top 10, you will find links to the song.

  1. “How Soon is Now” – The Smiths (1984)

This incredible musical Masterpiece combined Morrissey’s amazing Vocals with one of the few times, Johnny Marr, let it all out with a  harder beat.

  1. “Epic” – Faith no more – (1989)

This was one of the first modern attempts combining Rap with Metal. Faith no More truly created a Musical fantasia!

  1. “One” – Metallica – (1988)

Metallica’s Mona Lisa of a song that combined deep lyrics with amazing guitar synthesis.

  1. “Lovesong” – The Cure – (1989)

Smith’s love for his wife endures in maybe the greatest rock ballad of all time.

  1. “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” – Simple Minds – (1985)

This song might define the true spirit of the era.

  1. “Eye of the Tiger” – Survivor – (1982)

Maybe the most epic song for a movie of all time!

  1. “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” – The Smiths – (1986)

Morrissey truly delivers an emotional roller coaster with this song.

  1. “Battery” Metallica  – (1988)

Metallica’s hidden gem brings listeners on a roller coaster of emotions.

  1. “Time After Time” – Cyndi Lauper (1984)

Lauper’s epic 80’s song still holds up today.

  1. “Another One Bites the Dust” – Queen – (1980)

Most people when they think of Queen think of the ’70s but possibly their best song was this one from 1980.
